1811 1812 due to Earthquakes over a four monthalong the New Madrid Fault zone which is near Memphis and St Louis. The backward flow was temporary but the course of the river changed.

Gosh, yes! What is really odd, the Tennis Court goes East To West, which really isn't 'user friendly'. Plus, it sits on top of a steep hill. It really sucks to have the sun in your eyes and needing to go down a hill everytime a ball goes out of the court. So backwards! Azzbackwards!

If you want another river which flows backward: Jordan. This event happens every year around Xmas, and no scientist can explain why. This is why the Church believes it to be a miracle!

I think this happened in the lower reaches after one of the worst earthquakes in history (1800's) and yes it was temporary
